1. CLASSICS: Sunshine Superman by Donovan (1966)
With "Sunshine Superman," Donovan broke away from traditional folk, embracing the experimental, world-music-infused vibes of the 60s. This album saw him stepping into the psychedelic scene shortly after his (true or staged) rivalry with Dylan. The album was recorded at Abbey Road Studios and among the many recording musicians were two guys you might have heard about: Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones. This was before their Led Zeppelin fame.
2. ROCK: A/B by Kaleo (2016)
Did you wake up this morning hoping you'd stumble across a contemporary rock band from Iceland? If you did, it's your lucky day! "A/B" by Kaleo is a solid, punchy blues-rock album that rivals established big names in the genre. Produced by Jacquire King (known for his work with Kings of Leon), the album draws inspiration from its various recording locations, including Nashville, Los Angeles, and their homeland of Iceland. It shifts from intense, driving rock anthems to softer, more reflective tracks.
3. UNCHARTED: House In The Tall Grass by Kikagaku Moyo (2016)
"House in the Tall Grass" by Kikagaku Moyo is a beautiful reminder that the power of music to transport and transform comes from every corner of this world. Released in 2016, this record follows in the direct footsteps of Japanese psychedelic rock bands like Flower Travellin' Band. Throughout the album, the band balances moments of serene introspection with bursts of improvisation.
4. MADE IN BRAZIL: Cartão Postal by Evinha (1971)
Evinha, who started out in a musical group with her siblings (Trio Esperança), ventured into a solo career with "Cartão Postal." The all-star team collaborating on the album includes Roberto Menescal (producer), and the brother duos Marcos and Paulo Sergio Valle, as well as Roberto and Erasmo Carlos as composers/songwriters.
5. JAZZ: Kenny Drew And His Progressive Piano by Kenny Drew (1954)
Although the album name clearly indicates that you should focus most of your attention on the piano, Eugene Wright's bass performance is equally impressive. The recording sessions for this album took place at the famed Van Gelder Studio in New Jersey, a legendary site known for producing some of the most iconic jazz records of the era.
Every Tuesday a new bright list!! Congrats. 👏🏻👏🏻
